‘Alive and Kicking’ Just Out in Theaters Near You

What a delight. From the first frame you are smiling and you never stop. You get the message that when you are dancing, Lindy, Swing, you name it, you cannot help but be happy.

Add to this confection of the sweet art of dancing among young and old, black, white, brown and yellow, its history as a dance started by enslaved Africans in America and you cheer for its rebirth today in all its freedom and glory. And by its end you will be ready to enroll in the nearest class.

All the dances derive from the Lindy Hop which began at the only fully integrated ballroom in America, in Harlem when the soldiers returned from World War II.

Susan Glatzer, who wrote, produced and directed this first film has been dancing swing and its variants for 20 years. Glatzer herself is not just a dancer, but a colleague of a generation of film buyers, sellers and distributors who began in the 60s and are now the senior generation in the U.S. film business of indie films. Her film premiered at SXSW and is dedicated to Bingham who all know as an almost legendary film afficionando and who was her boss when they were at October Films. From October, the art arm of Universal, she went on to become once the indie arm of Universal — to rising to become Senior Vice President at Paramount Pictures, and finally made a film herself: “Alive and Kicking”.
